Conference excursion

A full-day mid-conference excursion (Fri., Sept. 24) will be arranged to visit Sergiev Posad which grew up in the 15th century around one of the greatest of Russian monasteries, the Troitse-Sergieva (Trinity) Lavra established by St. Sergius of Radonezh (1314 - 1392).

Sergiev Posad has always been a "must" town in Golden Ring of Russia. Golden Ring of Russia is about twenty cities of Central Russia, located on the north-east of Moscow, - the center of historical and architectural monuments of XII-XVIII centuries, a treasure of Russian culture.

Sergiev Posad is a town of painters, wood-carvers, toy-makers developed from the villages and settlements nearby the Trinity-St Sergius Laura - one of the ancient and most revered Russian monasteries, a historic center of Russian Orthodox. Sergiyev Posad is situated in 54 km northeast to the Moscow Ring Road which is an official Moscow border (please see the map).
